LAFLA’s Santa Monica night clinic provides assistance to low-income tenants who have legal issues related to rent control, substandard housing, habitability, retaliation, harassment, illegal rent increases, and other consumer issues. Each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until about 8:00 p.m., volunteers interview and provide information and advice to clients on these matters with the help and support of a staff attorney. Training is provided at the clinic and no prior knowledge of landlord tenant law is required. During the school year, volunteer attorneys mentor local law students, who assist at the clinic to practice their client interviewing skills.
