Description of Opportunity

Tenants facing eviction are threatened with loss of their home and homelessness in a very short time. Many have strong defenses to the eviction, but have little chance of prevailing when they appear in court in pro per. Simply admitting a document in to evidence is beyond the skills of an untrained litigant. Unlawful detainer representation offers pro bono attorneys the opportunity to first chair on a case and gain negotiation, deposition, and trial experience. Attorneys may also have the opportunity to request a jury trial. Because evictions are limited actions subject to very short timelines, the average representation last approximately 45 days and requires approximately 20-50 hours of legal work depending on the case.
